From long forgotten tales once eternally told, there lie secrets to our world that many seem to have forgotten. The presence of immortal beings and fantastical creatures that roamed freely are now considered to be but fairy tales dreamed up for a child's amusement, or ancient myths who once were but are no more. Among these, the memories of time, lies the origin of a particular group of humans who were given an extraordinary gift.
The Dragoons.
Dragoons are few in number, and must always be for they contain the souls of the most powerful dragons that ever lived. Dragon souls are everlasting, and as such must either find a suitable host, or allow the world to fall into chaos due to the imbalance of power. Because of this, humans throughout history have been chosen to take on the soul of a dragon, to become one with it, and to keep the order that has so long been maintained.
Once, they were referred to as heroes.
As time went on the dragoons became exiles, suddenly feared for what power they had in comparison to their former bretheren. They were forced into living their lives in secret, well away from those who would stop at nothing to destroy what was different from themselves. For over 3000 years now, dragoons have lived, died, and been created anew from unsuspecting human beings who have never even imagined their existence to be anything more than fiction.
Of course, in the longstanding tradition of things that reality hides away, pretending they are fiction, this particular fall afternoon changed everything for the lives of the dragoons, the humans they hid from, and the entire world with them.
This is the story of how a young man who'd only ever dreamed of dragons, suddenly became the holder of a dragon's spirit. A dragon's spirit, that shouldn't have existed...
