Laughing without ecstasy
Shouting without joy.
Emotions are but fickle things
Like a child's new toy.

Think all that you will of me.
Believe all that you can
While you enjoyed perfection
I packed up and ran.

That's right, I'm an orphan
Or maybe I'm a punk
I don't even get hand-me-downs
Cause you all think I'm junk.

Just what makes you better?
You've got a house? A home?
I bet you wouldn't last a tick
If you were left alone.

So spare me all your pity
Spare me all your naive looks
Because not every runaway
Is another common crook.

2010-11-18 Annie: This reminds me of something Charles Dickensy. I particularly like the lines "Emotions are but fickle things" and "Because not every runaway/Is another common crook." Dramatic, direct, and not too long. Great poem!
His identity and the time frame are vague, adding to the intrigue.

2010-11-18 Tyr Zalo Hawk: Oooh... I'm a Dickens now! Huzzah! Huzzah!

2010-11-18 Annie: ;D It's mostly the way he's a vagrant but a child. That's very Dickensy to me, haha.

2010-11-21 Tyr Zalo Hawk: awww.. now my 'Up the frickin Dickins' comment seems weird <_<...
