Crack. Noah's head whipped around at the sound of the ground giving way and a shrill cry. "Noah!!" Kay's voice cried out desperately as her image could be seen falling backwards over the cliff. Noah's legs crunched and made a dash towards the girl as her footing slipped off of the edge and her hand stretched out towards him in a silent plea of help. The pounding of his feet and heart became one as he raced to get to the raven haired girl in time. Falling backwards, almost as if it was slow motion, the dark brown eyes wide in horror at what was happening.
Noah pushed as hard as he could. Once he was a few feet away his arm stretched out and grasped around the small hand of his beloved friend. A sudden jolt almost sent him off balance and down into the river below but he was able to grasp his free hand around the edge to steady himself. Kay slammed into the side of the cliff, feeling rocks and remnants of tree roots dig into her stomach and side as she looked up at her savior. Her eyes trailed down the wall of the cliff and down towards the river where rocks fell into the raging river below. Pulling the brown orbs back up they met with Noah's relieved smile as she gave a sigh of relief. "You're alright, now…" his kind voice reached out to her, yet the calming effect didn't reach her heart to calm the erratic beating. "I've got you." his voice finished as Noah began to hoist her back up to safety.
With one last pull and a slight push from Kay's foot on a small root she was able to climb back to safety. Sitting there at the edge on her knees, hunched over with her hair draped around her head and shoulders, she placed a hand over her heart and felt it racing. Kay took a deep breath but it would not calm.
